Meriden Mall Employee Hospitalized After Customer Throws Powdered Substance at Them: PD – NBC Connecticut

A retail worker was hospitalized after a customer reportedly threw a powdery substance at him Thursday afternoon in Meriden.

Meriden police said the incident occurred in Windsor at the Meriden Mall just before 12:45 p.m

The employee reported to officers that their eyes were irritated and it felt like their throat was closing. They were treated at the scene and taken to hospital where their condition is stable.

Police said the area was cordoned off and multiple agencies were called in, including the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), the Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Authorities have since collected the powdery substance and have yet to identify it.

Windsor, a store specializing in trendy women’s clothing, will remain closed until a private contractor can be brought in to clean the affected area.

The rest of the mall is running normally. Investigators are working to take video footage, speak to any witnesses and identify suspects.

Two persons of interest were identified, but no further information was available. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
