Man dies after becoming trapped in grain bin in southwest Minnesota – InForum

SLAYTON, Minn. – A man died Tuesday afternoon after becoming trapped in a grain bin in rural Balaton.

The Murray County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 720 211th St. at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a man trapped in a grain bin. According to reports at the scene, the person was completely submerged in the grain.

Bruce Andrew Larson, 48, of rural Balaton, was freed from the grain bin and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, a news release said Thursday. These efforts were unsuccessful and Larson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Information gathered at the scene indicates that Larson entered the grain bin to install additional grain transportation equipment. During this operation he sank into the grain and was unable to escape.

The Murray County Sheriff’s Office and crews from Balaton Fire Department, Balaton Ambulance, Tracy Fire Department, Garvin Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance, North Memorial Air Care and Marshall Fire Department responded to the scene, according to a news release dispatched release by Murray County Chief Deputy Bryan Bose.

The incident remains under investigation.
