BP donates $200,000 to Houston Community College for electric vehicle safety training

Demonstrating its continued commitment to advancing the energy transition and strengthening the region’s workforce, BP has donated $200,000 to Houston Community College (HCC) to fund a safety and security training course of electric vehicle mechanics for City of Houston and Harris County employees. The initiative highlights the international company’s commitment to sustainable development and aims to equip local technicians with the specialist skills needed for the future of transport.

The program aims to train more than 250 fleet service employees this year by providing them with safety knowledge for handling electric vehicles and advanced repair and maintenance training.

In 2020, the City of Houston released its Climate Action Plan which called for converting non-emergency light-duty municipal vehicles to electric by 2030. Harris County has a similar goal: transitioning its fleet to electric vehicles .

Michael Edwards, president of HCC’s Northeast College, praised BP’s investment and commitment to strengthening communities, creating sustainable jobs and promoting transition.

Earlier this year, bp launched its first electric vehicle charging station in the United States, bp Pulse, at the company’s Energy Corridor headquarters. The station, offering 24 high-speed electric vehicle charging points, is part of bp’s plan to invest $1 billion in electric vehicle charging infrastructure by 2030.
