Captain Roy Beit Yaakov, 22, of Eli; Staff Sergeant Gilad Arye Boim, 22, of Karnei Shomron; Sergeant Daniel Chemu, 20, of Tiberias; Sergeant Ilan Cohen, 20, of Karmiel and Staff Sergeant Betzlel David Shashuah, 22, of Tel Aviv. All served in the 202nd Battalion of the Parachute Brigade.

The mishap occurred after troops from the 202nd Battalion captured a building near Jabaliya in the Gaza Strip, prompting two supporting tanks to arrive in the area.

Around 7 p.m., a troop from one of the two tanks identified a gun barrel visible through a window in the building and alerted the tank next to it, which opened fire on the building – apparently unaware that the troops had captured it.

After the initial investigation into the incident, the armored force suspected that the building was occupied by terrorists and therefore opened fire. However, the military still does not know the reason for the opening of fire, as the two tanks had already joined the battalion beforehand, and it is likely that I was informed about the forces inside the building. However, it is not yet clear whether and how the armored force was briefed on site before deployment.
