The New Mexico Activities Association issued a baseball strike against Volcano Vista High School following Monday night’s incident

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – It was shocking video of a heated exchange at a high school state championship baseball game. Now the New Mexico Activities Association has ruled against the Volcano Vista Hawks because of the incident.

The Volcano Vista Hawks faced the Los Lunas Tigers in the state tournament on Monday. The Hawks lost 15-8. But after the referee’s final call, players can be seen in the video becoming upset with the referee, and a member of the coaching staff walks up to the referee and angrily touches his chest plate.

Meanwhile, a visibly upset player approached the referee. His teammates and another coach began pushing him back, and a woman could be heard screaming in the background.

That incident sparked an investigation by the New Mexico Activities Association, and on Wednesday the NMAA announced that there had been a strike against the Volcano Vista baseball team and a strike against the team’s fans.

These are warnings and will be in effect for next season. If the team scores a second goal next season, their season will be over. If Hawks fans receive another strike, they will not be allowed to watch any more games for the remainder of the season.

Head coach Todd Flores is no longer with the Volcano Vista baseball team. There is no word yet on the reason for his departure.
