Rachakonda Commissioner suspends two police officers

Hyderabad: Rachakonda Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi issued suspension orders against two policemen who allegedly embezzled money seized during vehicle checking ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The suspended police officers are Sai Kumar, a police chief, and Karthik, a constable, both working with the Rachakonda Armed Reserve, who had stopped two people, Krishna and Srikanth, at Karimguda in Medipally and seized Rs 25 lakh.

However, the cops said on record that they seized Rs 19,000 and claimed to have pocketed the remaining amount.

Srikanth had informed the police superiors about this, following which an investigation was initiated. After the investigation, Rachakonda police commissioner suspended the police chief and constable.

Meanwhile, a friend of the two policemen, Ranjith, who had reportedly tipped them off about transporting the cash, is said to have died by suicide at his house two days ago.

The family members told the police that Ranjith was worried about the developments and may have ended his life as a result.

The superiors are now investigating whether the two police officers are involved in other cases of this type.
