The Texans schedule is FINALLY here, so Houston Texans sideline reporter and team analyst John Harris broke it down with some fascinating numbers.

The Texans schedule is FINALLY here. A Christmas game. Several Primetime games. Sunday Night Football for the first time since 2019. Monday Night Football for the first time since the same year. Let’s look at some numbers when it comes to the 2024 calendar.

2 – This will be the second time the Texans have played on Christmas Day since 2017. That season, a depleted Texans team faced the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day at NRG Stadium. This year, the Texans will take on the mighty Baltimore Ravens on Christmas Day on Netflix!

3 – Netflix signed a three-year contract with the NFL to broadcast Christmas games on the streaming giant’s service. The Texans vs. Ravens and Chiefs vs. Steelers doubleheader will be the service’s maiden voyage.

0 – Speaking of the Ravens, the Texans have beaten the Ravens in recent years (2012 and 2014 come to mind), but they have never beaten the Ravens WITH Lamar Jackson as the starting QB.

6 – There have been six rookie QBs selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

3 – The Texans plan to face three, starting with Caleb Williams and the Bears in Week 2 of Sunday Night Football. Next, the Texans will travel to New England in Week 6 for a matchup with quarterback Drake Maye. There will also be a trip to Minneapolis, hopefully to end a streak against the Vikings and rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy. What sequence? Well, I’m glad you asked.

0 – The Texans’ number of wins against the Minnesota Vikings is zero, as they have never beaten the Vikings. Never. The Texans will travel to Minneapolis hoping to break that streak in Week 3 on Sunday, September 22.

1 – This will be the first time the Texans play a prime-time regular season game at Jerry World in Arlington. The Texans and Cowboys played at Prime Time in 2002 and 2018, but those games were at NRG…both wins against the Cowboys. Now it’s Monday evening, November 18th, no less! I can’t wait for this one.

1750 – The Texans last played a regular season Sunday Night Football game against the New England Patriots in 2019 at NRG Stadium. They’ll start against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, more than 1,700 days after that game against the Patriots. The Texans will follow up with a Sunday night game against the Detroit Lions in Week 10, eight weeks later.

15 – The Texans project to play just under half of the rookies drafted in the 1st round, including the QBs mentioned above.

5 – The Texans will play on Christmas as noted above. Christmas is on a Wednesday in 2024. That means the Texans will play five of the NFL’s six days of games in 2024.

Monday – at Dallas Cowboys

Wednesday – Baltimore Ravens

Thursday – at New York Jets

Friday – No games on Friday, other than the Amazon Prime Black Friday game

Saturday – at the Kansas City Chiefs

1 – For the first time, the Texans will travel to play Green Bay NOT IN DECEMBER!!! As the team’s sideline reporter, I can’t tell you what a gift this is. I admit though, it was really cool to play the Packers in a snowstorm, but it just wasn’t cool to not win.

14 – The Texans will have the last bye week allowed in the NFL – Week 14 – December 8 and the last in Texans history. The Texans have never had a week-to-week 11 bye in franchise history. Until 2024.

Alright, that’s it for the program in numbers. It felt like it was taking forever to get here, but it finally did and thankfully it lived up to ALL the hype.
