Ronel Blanco suspended for using foreign substances

Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president of on-field operations, announced Wednesday that Houston Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco has received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for violating foreign substance bans. which led to his pregame ejection in the top of the fourth inning of his club’s game on Monday, May 14, against the Oakland Athletics at Minute Maid Park.

Astros general manager Dana Brown said Blanco will not appeal, so the right-hander’s suspension will take effect Wednesday night, when the Astros are scheduled to resume their series against the A’s. He is eligible to return for the Astros’ May 26 game in Oakland.
