Florida man who admitted sexually assaulting his cousin during a police interview has been convicted

A 26-year-old Florida man could spend the rest of his life in prison after admitting to sexually abusing his cousin while being interviewed for a police officer job. Accordingly Fox NewsIn a news release, District Attorney Andrew Bain’s office said an Orange County jury found Stephen Bodley guilty of sexual battery last week.

Bodley initially spoke of “sexual games” in an application as a sworn officer with the Apopka Police Department before bringing up the topic again in an interview.

“The certified vocal stress analysis examiner performed a vocal stress examination on Bodley,” Bain said. “During the exam, the examiner asked Bodley to elaborate on the answers he had given in a pre-test questionnaire.”

Bodley provided details of the sexual abuse of a child and also admitted the crime when asked to comment. The victim’s mother was eventually contacted by investigators and she told them that her daughter and Bodley had a close relationship The Tampa Bay Times.

The victim also spoke with the Florida Department of Children and Families and said Bodley sexually abused her for many years. She said the suspect abused her when he was between 14 and about 19 years old.

Bodley’s lawyer had wanted his confession excluded as evidence at trial, but that request was rejected by a judge. The 26-year-old’s sentencing date is June 24th.

According to the Atlanta Journal ConstitutionKenneth Bowen III joined the Clayton County Police Department academy in June 2018 but was fired within months for lying to supervisors after arriving several hours late for training on Sept. 12.

Although Bowen did not work at the academy for long, the information he provided was extremely important and crucial to his eventual arrest. According to Clayton County Police Chief Kevin Roberts, Bowen was behind seven rape incidents and one sexual assault case after forensic evidence linked him to the crimes.

“Had he not attempted to join the Clayton County Police Department, it is questionable when we would have arrested him,” Roberts said at the time.
