Dublin: Man in his 20s dies in gun attack in Drimnagh

Three men have been arrested after a man in his early 20s was shot dead in Dublin.

According to Gardaí (Irish Police), it happened on Knocknarea Road in Drimnagh at around 12:15 a.m. local time on Monday.

What gardaí described as a “potential explosive device”, believed to be a pipe bomb, was discovered in nearby Knocknarea Court.

The Irish Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team attended the scene and removed the device for further investigation.

According to Irish broadcaster RTÉ, investigators believe that the murder is linked to serious and organized crime.

Three men – two in their 20s and one a teenager – were arrested as part of the investigation and officers have set up an operations center at Sundrive Road Garda station.

Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee said the attack was “totally unacceptable” and “not something we will tolerate on our streets.”

“I commend the gardaí for responding quickly and arresting suspects quickly,” she added.

Officers discovered two vehicles at the scene, a black Mercedes-Benz and a black Volkswagen Golf, which appeared to be involved in a collision, Supt Paul Maher told reporters on Monday afternoon.

Several other vehicles were damaged on Knocknarea Road and a vehicle of interest – a silver Ford Focus – was identified on Sperrin Road.

The victim’s body remains at the scene and is currently being held for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

An autopsy is being planned.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses and anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area from Sunday evening to get in touch.
