Rape: ‘Helpful’ Home Guard Jawan rapes tourists, held | Ahmedabad News

Ahmedabad: Akshay Kumar, a 30-year-old home guard, was arrested for allegedly raping a 24-year-old tourist from Udaipur at a hotel after she asked him for help while trying to catch a bus. The victim was in the city on Sunday and went to Geeta Mandir bus stand to catch a bus to Udaipur. “There was no bus available there but a rickshaw driver told her she could take one from Chiloda to Udaipur and she went there in the evening. In Chiloda, she saw Kumar in his police uniform and asked him where she could catch the bus. He told her she could get one from Nana Chiloda and offered to accompany her there. Since he was wearing a uniform, she agreed. When she failed to get a bus in Nana Chiloda later that evening, she asked Kumar if she could book a hotel and catch the bus tomorrow morning. According to the complainant, Kumar then took her to a nearby hotel. He then told her that he had to stay back as it was already late as he could not find any means of transport to get home. He even offered to pay 50% of the room rate. Since he was wearing a police uniform and had helped her, she didn’t suspect any evil intentions. “Kumar then allegedly raped her in the room around 2.30 am. She immediately called the control room and a police team arrived and took Kumar into custody,” said VN Yadav, deputy commissioner of police, G division. Kumar was arrested under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and investigation is underway. The woman’s medical examination is completed and at first glance it appears that she was raped.
