Irvine police search for hit-and-run suspect behind rollover crash – NBC Los Angeles

Investigators with the Irvine Police Department continued searching Tuesday for a hit-and-run driver who caused a fatal rollover crash last week.

The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. last Thursday near Culver Drive and Trabucco Road, police said, when the suspect’s car, a Honda, ran a red light.

As the victim attempted to avoid a collision with the suspect’s car, his 2004 Toyota Corolla spun and eventually lost control before crashing into a median, a tree and a light pole, flipping his car upside down was thrown below.

The driver of the Toyota ran away from the scene without offering to help the victim or reporting the victim to authorities.

The victim, later identified as 67-year-old Allen Yangkaou Lee of Irvine, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. Police said Lee ultimately died from his injuries Monday evening.

The suspect is believed to have been driving a silver or beige Honda Civic or Civic Hybrid manufactured between 2008 and 2011.

The car was described as having “racing decals” on the lower doors and some type of red material on the door handles.
