Sexual assault convict kidnapped woman from Sunrise laundromat and raped her, cops say

SUNRISE, Fla — A Sunrise man convicted of sexual assault in Wyoming struck again, this time allegedly at a laundromat in South Florida, according to police.

That Feb. 25, 2014, third-degree sexual assault conviction in Sweetwater County, Wyoming, placed Marquise Perry Grant on Florida’s sex offender list, according to online records.

Police said Grant, 34, went to Sudzies of Sunrise, 6165 W. Sunrise Blvd., on Monday and saw the victim.

A Sunrise Police Department arrest report states that Grant went into the bathroom, retrieved a “shotgun pistol from a large duffel bag,” came out, pointed it at the woman and told her to leave the store.

The woman, fearing for her life, complied with the request, police said. The report does not indicate whether she knew Grant before the incident.

She asked several times if she could pack up her things and leave in her car, but Grant “grabbed” her and escorted her to a “dark alley” on the west side of the store, where he began to rape her, the report said .

The report states that a Sunrise police officer who arrived at the scene saw Grant “still sitting on top of (the victim) in the alley” with his “sexual organs exposed.”

Grant made off, but police chased him and took him into custody, they say. Police said it was “obvious” based on evidence found at the scene that there was “fighting” during the attack.

As of Tuesday, Grant has been held without bail in the Broward Main Jail on charges of armed sexual assault, kidnapping to facilitate the commission of a felony, committing a first-degree felony with a weapon and resisting arrest.
