Smyrna man arrested for shoplifting

LEWES, Del. – A Smyrna man has been arrested on charges related to shoplifting in two counties.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Monday, officers were called to Lowes at 20364 Plantations Road in Lewes for a reported shoplifting. Before arriving at the store, officers were told that a man had stolen merchandise from the store and they fled on foot. After receiving a description of the suspect, officers found him at the bus stop near the store and took him into custody. He was identified as 44-year-old Augustine Haymond.

A search of Haymond uncovered stolen merchandise, a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. It was also revealed that Haymond had stolen the goods on display by cutting the security cable.

A computer check revealed that Haymond was similarly wanted for shoplifting at Lowes on Hessler Boulevard in New Castle.

Haymond was charged with two counts of possession of shoplifting tools, three counts of failure to comply with bail conditions, theft, shoplifting under $1,500, second-degree criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of criminal mischief under $1000. He was later released on $11,500 unsecured bail.
