Two people died after being struck by an MBTA Commuter Rail train on the Framingham/Worcester route

Two people died after they were struck by an MBTA Commuter Rail train on the Framingham/Worcester route Monday afternoon while on their way to work, the Middlesex District Attorney said. Natick police said they are working with MBTA police on an accident that killed two people on the commuter rail tracks near Washington Avenue. The incident occurred between Natick Center and West Natick during the busy evening commute. Transit police investigators and Keolis employees were on the tracks for hours, taking measurements and photos and trying to reconstruct the sequence of events. “No crime is suspected,” said a spokesman for the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. The incident caused damage to all commuters and train services on the route were suspended for several hours. “I find it very strange because it’s usually one person,” said Donald Collins, a commuter train passenger. The tracks run parallel to a bicycle parking area for children, some of whom witnessed the incident. A terrible tragedy occurred. Several witnesses reported a woman was near the tracks when a man on a bicycle tried to help her. An unnamed witness described the scene: “He picked up her backpack, she had fallen, he tried to pick her up and then suddenly the train stopped and they were dead,” the witness said. I just feel sorry for the train driver, he has to live with that,” said one person who declined to give his name. “Passengers on the Framingham/Worcester Line will experience significant delays in both directions due to police operations in the right-of-way in the Natick area,” the MBTA said on its website. The MBTA said the tracks reopened to full service around 8 p.m. The train to Worcester terminated in Natick at 4:45 p.m. The 5 p.m. train from South Station to Framingham was stopped in Auburndale. The 5:45 p.m. train from South Station to Framingham was canceled. The 6:15 p.m. express train to Worcester was canceled. The 6:35pm and 7:35pm trains to Worcester were late. Several incoming trains from Worcester and Framingham to South Station were also delayed or canceled. Click here for updates directly from the MBTA website.
