Maryland man sentenced to prison for sex crimes against children

After the child posted about the attack on social media, his mother helped him go to the police.

FREDERICK, Md. – A Maryland man is serving a 19-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting a child.

Nicholas Wayne Summers was sentenced to 40 years in prison with all but a 19-year sentence suspended for two counts of second-degree rape. The verdict was decided based on a binding plea agreement.

In May 2023, a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to a call of a sexual assault of a child. The victim’s mother told the officer that her child had posted about the assault on social media. After speaking with her child, the mother learned that her child had been sexually abused by Summers multiple times over the course of three years in Frederick and Montgomery counties.

Prosecutor Charlie Smith said, “Years of collaboration between detectives from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office brought justice to the victim and his family today. We will continue to hold predators accountable, Frederick.”

After his release from prison, Summers will serve five years of special sex offender supervision. Additionally, he is subject to lifetime sex offender supervision and must register as a sex offender for life. His conditions include no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with minors, internet and GPS monitoring, and a ban on the possession of all firearms.
