Dover, NH police warn of “smash and grab” thefts from cars

DOVER – City police are warning residents about recent “smash and grab” thefts from vehicles by a group targeting credit cards, checks and other forms of identification.

Dover police said they are investigating two reports of such thefts at the Longhill Dog Park on Longhill Road on Sunday.

Victims of both thefts reported stolen wallets containing identification, checks, credit and debit cards and other personal information, police said. In one incident, a vehicle window was smashed.

The suspects were driving a dark blue sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima, and were wearing a vanity plate that read “TR SLAYER” or “T1RESLYR,” police said, citing their investigation.

Police said the perpetrators were suspected of being part of an “out-of-state organized crime group that uses stolen personal and banking details to commit financial fraud.” The thefts typically occur at gyms, recreation areas or other places where citizens leave their purse or bag in their vehicle for short periods of time, police said.
