Wanted man arrested after police chase in Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) – A man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants was arrested after police said he led them on a chase in Fairmont.

Sidney Walker

According to the criminal complaint, this happened on Tuesday, April 30th. Fairmont Police Department officers saw 50-year-old Sidney Walker in the driver’s seat of a maroon Chevy Trailblazer parked in the 400 block of Quincy Street, the complaint states. The complaint noted that two women were passengers in the vehicle.

Knowing that Walker had “multiple outstanding warrants from multiple jurisdictions,” officers said they attempted to conduct an inspection of the vehicle and asked Walker to turn off the SUV. Instead, Walker put the vehicle in forward gear and drove through a driveway and over a grassy hill to get onto the Fairmont Gateway Connector.

During the chase, Walker ignored lights and sirens, drove at a “high rate of speed” and passed a vehicle on the High Level Bridge, nearly causing a “rollover accident,” according to the complaint.

Officers lost sight of the vehicle but were called shortly after when the vehicle was stopped at the end of the 600 block of Monroe Street, the complaint states. A K-9 search was conducted and the passengers were found, but not Walker.

Walker was later arrested and is currently being held at the North Central Regional Jail on charges of reckless fleeing and obstructing an officer.
