3 dead, 15 injured as thousands gather in Alabama for May Day – WSB-TV Channel 2

Authorities said three people were killed and at least 15 injured after gunfire broke out at a May Day event in Stockton, Alabama, on Saturday evening.

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, about 1,000 people were present at the May Day gathering when an argument broke out and at least one person began shooting into the crowd around 9:30 p.m

“Unfortunately, three of the victims succumbed to their injuries,” the sheriff’s office reported. Office added.

According to WKRG-TV, at least 18 people were shot.

The names of the deceased have not been released by the sheriff’s office, but one of the deceased is Michael Anderson Jr., 19, according to WKRG.

Anderson’s family confirmed his death to the television station.

Family members told WALA that 37-year-old Chiquita Ewing was also killed at the event on Saturday.

Ewing was the mother of two boys and two girls.

“This is a tragic event that touches many lives in our community,” the office said. “We are working very hard to bring this case to a resolution, but without help we cannot make arrests or successfully prosecute the perpetrators.”

Law enforcement is searching for suspects in the shooting.

Stockton is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Mobile, Alabama.
