Officials identify driver killed in fiery crash on Nashville Pike in Gallatin, Tennessee

SUMNER COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Authorities have identified the driver who died in a fiery crash on Nashville Pike in April.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the accident occurred just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, near the intersection of Nashville Pike and Shute Lane.


Authorities reported that 55-year-old Joseph Knutte was driving west on Nashville Pike in a 2020 Ford Explorer when he veered off the right side of the road and struck a bridge abutment.

THP said the impact caused the Ford to spin, go back onto the roadway and completely burst into flames.

No further information about the crash was immediately released.

In a post on social media, the family asked those who would like to make memorial donations to do so in Knutte’s name to Gigi’s Playhouse, a nonprofit organization that provides free educational programs for people with Down syndrome.
