Escaped Newton County Inmate | Man arrested for helping inmate

Newton County officials arrested escaped inmate Kendrick Hurst on Friday.

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. – A second person was arrested for allegedly helping a Newton County inmate escape from custody at a hospital earlier this month, the sheriff’s office said.

A 30-year-old Garden City man was arrested Sunday and accused of helping Kendrick Hurst escape from custody on May 4, according to the sheriff’s office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the first arrest in connection with this case was a 49-year-old man from Oxford. This person was arrested on May 7th.

“The Newton County Sheriff’s Office will leave no stone unturned during this ongoing investigation,” said Sheriff Ezell Brown. “Any person who assisted Kendrick Hurst – be it feeding him, providing funds, making phone calls, providing clothing and providing transportation” – will be arrested and charged.”

On Friday, Newton County officials said Hurst was arrested in Wake County, North Carolina. He now faces several additional charges in connection with his escape.

Hurst was arrested on April 28 and charged with terroristic threats and acts, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, intentionally obstructing police officers and a number of traffic violations.

Authorities said more information about Hurst’s arrest will be released “at a later date” to thank and recognize all agencies that helped.
