Shooting at home in East Missoula on Sunday is under investigation

One person was injured and taken to a local hospital after a shooting at a home in East Missoula Sunday night.

Missoula County sheriff’s spokeswoman Jeannette Smith said Missoula County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the 600 block of Michigan Avenue in East Missoula around 7:24 p.m. Sunday.

Smith said the incident was the result of an accidental discharge of a handgun. There is no risk to public safety.

One person was injured and transported to a nearby hospital.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Further details will be announced as they become available.

Police were called to a residence in East Missoula Sunday evening for a report of a shooting.

The call came in just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday for the 600 block of Michigan Avenue in East Missoula.

A Missoula sheriff’s deputy told our reporter at the scene that it appeared to be an accidental shooting and there was no threat to the public.
