Bloomfield police cars crash while attempting to overtake a BMW in Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (WABC) — Several Bloomfield police vehicles crashed early Monday morning while trying to stop a BMW.

Officials say the accident happened just before 2 a.m. near Grove Street and South Orange Avenue in Newark

Emergency crews were attempting to stop a black 2021 BMW X5 when they collided at the intersection.

According to authorities, a police SUV crashed into a business and another vehicle crashed into a tree.

All officers involved in the accident were taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to officials, another SUV was also struck at the intersection. This driver suffered minor injuries.

The BMW fled the scene of the accident.

There were no arrests.
