Erratic Driving Triggers Laurel Police Pursuit | News

LAURELDel.- According to Laurel police, a traffic stop on May 11 escalated into a high-speed chase. According to police, it all started when a Laurel Police Department officer noticed a gold Toyota 4-Runner driving erratically on the Sussex Highway. According to police, this included dangerous lane crossing and narrowly avoiding collisions. The situation took a dangerous turn when the 4-Runner, attempting to avoid stationary traffic by swerving onto the shoulder, collided with another vehicle turning out of a driveway, causing significant damage and leaving one person with one left a minor head injury.

Laurel police said that instead of complying with the officer’s attempt to intervene, the driver of the 4-Runner ran away from the vehicle. According to police, 28-year-old Kenya Wynder of Bridgeville, a passenger, got into the driver’s seat, sparking a chase that reached speeds of over 90 miles per hour. The chase eventually ended on a dead-end dirt road behind a farmhouse, where Wynder attempted to flee on foot before being captured after a short chase. Police say Wynder now faces a slew of charges, including reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations, underscoring the seriousness of the incident. A third person, 26-year-old Shaquea Jones, who police said was present in the vehicle, was arrested and faces drug charges. Officers confirm they are still searching for the first driver and are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
