NBA Investigates Raptors’ Jontay Porter for Multiple Betting Irregularities (Video)

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the NBA is investigating Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for multiple cases of betting irregularities in recent months.

Porter was removed from the lineup before the Raptors’ game against the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. It is unclear how long he will be sidelined. The NBA issued a brief statement to ESPN later Monday night confirming it was “investigating the matter.”

According to the report, the league is investigating two specific games where there was increased betting interest on the under in multiple Porter Prop bets.

The first game took place on January 26th when the Raptors faced the Los Angeles Clippers. Porter played only four minutes in that game and then left due to an eye injury he sustained days earlier. Porter finished the game with no points, three rebounds, one assist and did not attempt a 3-point shot – allowing the Under to score in all four of those categories. According to ESPN, the under on Porter’s 3-point bet was the biggest money winner for bettors on all NBA contests that day via DraftKings Sportsbook.

According to reports, the league is expecting two games in which the Under failed due to several prop bets on Jontay Porter when he was eliminated after just a few minutes.According to reports, the league is expecting two games in which the Under failed due to several prop bets on Jontay Porter when he was eliminated after just a few minutes.

Then on March 20, when the Raptors played the Phoenix Suns, Porter played just three minutes before being sidelined due to illness. He finished the game with no points, two rebounds and one missed shot. The Under once again found success in all of these categories, and his side bets were once again the night’s biggest moneymaker in NBA games via DraftKings Sportsbook, according to the report.

According to Wojnarowski, there were several betting accounts that attempted to bet large amounts — “over $10,000 and $20,000” — on Porter Unders in the first game in question. Although it depends on the sportsbook, player bets are typically limited to a maximum of $2,000 per bet.

Porter did not attend the Raptors’ game against the Washington Wizards on Saturday for personal reasons. He was listed as out for Monday’s game against the Nets for the same reason.

NBA players and all league employees are not permitted to place bets on NBA games – either on the game itself or on side bets of any kind.

Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr., is in his first season with the Raptors. He has a two-way contract with the team and averaged 4.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in 26 games this season. He debuted with the Memphis Grizzlies in 2020 but has not played in the league the past two seasons.
