Man accused of raping daughter eight times in Punggol home

A man who allegedly raped his biological daughter eight times at his family home in Punggol denied the allegations against him in court on Monday (September 4).

The 34-year-old technician, who cannot be named to protect his daughter’s identity, faces two charges of raping his then 14-year-old daughter between November 2014 and January 2015.

However, according to the prosecution’s opening statement, the girl claims to have been raped a total of eight times during the same period. The girl, now 17, has two younger siblings aged nine and eleven.

The alleged crimes, which took place on November 19, 2014 and January 9, 2015, came to light after the girl confided in her then-boyfriend, who arranged for her to meet with the school counselor. The counselor then reported the matter to the police and the Ministry of Social and Family Development. In both cases, the girl’s mother was not at home, although her siblings were present at the time.

At the start of their trial, the prosecution, represented by Deputy Public Prosecutor Winston Man, said that around the evening of November 19, 2014, the girl’s father forcibly entered the locked communal toilet where she was changing. He ignored his daughter’s protests, forced her to turn around and then raped her for several minutes. Her mother was at work at the time. After the crime, he warned his daughter not to tell anyone what he had done.

The second incident occurred between January 9 and 10, 2015. The girl’s mother was at a mahjong session while her two younger siblings were in the master bedroom. The girl was about to enter the master bedroom to get her cellphone when her father allegedly grabbed her from behind and took her to her bedroom.

He checked that the master bedroom door was closed and that her siblings were still inside before pushing the girl onto the bed and covering her face with a blanket. After raping her, he cleaned her with toilet paper, instructed her to wash and left the room.

According to the DPP, the man’s semen was found on a pair of shorts the girl was wearing at the time of the second incident. The girl told two friends about the alleged rape.

I confided in my boyfriend at the time

One of her confidantes was a boy she had been dating for a few weeks in January 2015. The boy, who attended the same high school as her, testified Monday that the girl first told him about being raped by her father on Jan. 9, 2015, the same day of the second incident.

Just a few days earlier, she had asked him if he would still like her if she wasn’t a virgin, the boy said. He had replied back then that he liked her the way she is. It was shortly before the morning meeting on January 9th when the girl, crying, told him what had happened, said the boy, who cannot be named to protect the girl’s identity.

The boy urged the girl to report the matter to the police or talk to the school counselor, but the girl was reluctant because she did not want to cause conflict between her parents. A few days later, the boy made an appointment with the school counselor and took the girl there.

“I made an appointment with (the school counselor) because I know it is a serious matter and it is not good that it drags on,” he said.

During the meeting with the counselor, he learned that she had allegedly been raped eight times. “I found it shocking that her father could rape her so many times,” the boy said.

Prosecutors said they planned to call 19 witnesses in the case, including a friend of the girl and the school counselor.
