First weather alert: Aurora is possible Sunday night, with some showers returning on Monday

ROCHESTER, NY – One thing that probably matters most to many people is: Will we see the Northern Lights on Sunday evening? Recent solar activity suggests another chance to see the Northern Lights in Western New York on Sunday evening. Activity has been low but has picked up a bit this evening. If the Northern Lights actually return over our region on Sunday evening, cloud cover will have some cooperation. We will see some clouds moving overhead, but the sky should be clear enough to see the lights dancing.

Then we return to an unclear pattern in the early to middle part of the new work week. A passing warm front will bring scattered showers and a few thunderstorms Monday, followed by milder air in the upper 60s and lower 70s. Tuesday remains fairly mild in the lower 70s, but again with occasional showers. The wettest day of the week will be Wednesday in parts of the area. We will see a wave of low pressure bringing more consistent rain to the Southern Tier and southern Finger Lakes, with more isolated showers in areas north of the Thruway. Thursday and Friday tend to be a little drier, with a lower chance of a few showers. But at this point the weekend could be wet again. Stay tuned as we make adjustments to this fickle and volatile pattern.
