Suspect shot at Amazon facility after encounter with Columbus police; 1 officer injured

According to our media partner WBNS-10 TV, the suspect accused of shooting at an Amazon facility is dead and a Columbus police officer was injured following an encounter Sunday evening.

According to a social media post from the sheriff’s office, Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Amazon CMH5 fulfillment center in West Jefferson after 4:40 p.m. for reports of shots fired inside.

The sheriff’s office said no one was injured at the facility and the suspect left the area. Officers responded to assist West Jefferson Police officers on scene.

Later that evening, Columbus police officers responded to a scene at Georgesville and Clime streets where they encountered the person believed to be connected to the shooting at the Amazon facility, WBNS-10 reported.

A Columbus police officer said an officer was shot, but did not say who fired the shot.

The injured officer’s condition was described as stable, WBNS-10 reported.

A dispatcher told WBNS-10 that the suspect died, but no further details were released. The suspect’s identity has not been released.

There is no threat to the facility and officials are working to determine whether the suspect worked for Amazon, said West Jefferson Police Chief Brandon Smith.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was asked to investigate this incident, WBNS-10 reported.
