HFD investigates morning townhouse fire in Mililani

The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating the cause of an early morning fire at a townhouse in Mililani.

HFD dispatched seven units with 23 personnel to the fire near the 94-1000 block of Lanikuhana Avenue after receiving a 911 call about the incident around 7 a.m

Firefighters said they saw light smoke coming from the outside of the two-story townhouse. They used hose lines to secure a water supply in preparation for an offensive fire attack.

Firefighters announced the fire was extinguished around 7:09 a.m. after entering the building and finding an extinguished kitchen fire. They confirmed the fire had not spread to empty rooms or adjacent units and used ventilation fans to clear the unit of residual smoke.

The residents of the building were able to evacuate themselves and were examined by emergency services, but refused transport.

HFD is investigating the fire to determine the origin, cause and damage estimates and will provide an update when more information becomes available.

HFD offers the following safety tip: Use smoke detectors, which are essential for detecting fires. Working smoke alarms save lives because they give you more time to escape.
