71-year-old man shot after making threatening comments with a gun | News

YAKIMA, Washington – A 71 year old man was shot in self-defense after threatening a family with a gun on their property.

According to the Yakima Police Department, Officers responded to shots fired on May 11 at 3:30 p.m. Police found a 71-year-old dead from a gunshot wound. Police were able to locate the 27-year-old gunman, who told officers he shot the man to protect his family. A small pistol was found about the deceased man.

Witnesses corroborated the shooter’s version of events with video evidence and statements. The 27 year old man was published after speaking with the Yakima County District Attorney’s Office.

This investigation is ongoing and the Yakima County District Attorney’s Office says it must review the evidence before making a formal decision.
