PA Man Tries to Shoot Pastor During Service; Body found in his house

The church broadcasts its services live and captured the moment a man pulled out a gun and pointed it directly at Pastor Glenn Germany, causing disruption. “I’m grateful to God that I’m still here because he definitely pulled the trigger,” Germany said. Germany told Action News 4 in Pittsburgh that he had never seen the shooter before Sunday. He said he noticed the shooter frequently entering and leaving the church, even making eye contact with the priest. Then the unexpected happened. “I started preaching and suddenly from my left side I saw him walking from the back to the front of the church and he stood in the front corner of the church and smiled at me. ” said Germany. “…Suddenly I saw a gun pointed directly at me. And at that point all I could do was try to run for cover.” As Germany took cover, the members of the church quickly sprung into action. A Mann even jumped to attack the shooter. Eventually he managed to get the gun out of the man’s hands. “He could have lost his life in that fight,” Germany said of the man who jumped in sacrificed himself for everyone, and he’s the hero.” Court documents identified the suspect as Bernard Polite, 26, of Braddock. According to the criminal complaint, Polite admitted to police that he tried to shoot Germany because “God told him to do it,” and that he wanted to go to prison for release his thoughts. On Early Monday morning, the Allegheny County Coroner’s Office identified the man found shot to death in that home as Derek Polite, 56, of North Braddock, a relative of Bernard Polite. “Nothing bad has ever happened in this house. There was no domestic violence, no fights, no argument that we know of that we could have ever heard,” said neighbor Guy Diperna. Neighbors were shocked to hear about the turn of events. They said Bernard and Derek were nice and there were never any problems. “I just hope it’s not Bernard, that’s all, because he was a nice guy and so was Derek,” said neighbor Benjamin Jordan. No charges have been filed in connection with the body found and Allegheny County police are investigating. Meanwhile, Bernard Polite was arraigned early Monday morning on charges related to the church incident, including attempted murder. He was being held in the Allegheny County Jail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for later this month.

Court records identified the suspect as Bernard Polite, 26, of Braddock.

According to the criminal complaint, Polite admitted to police that he tried to shoot Germany because “God told him to do it” and that he wanted to go to prison to clear his head.
