Former Michigan corrections officer sentenced to 16 years in prison for horrific child abuse

A Michigan man who previously worked as an officer with the Michigan Department of Corrections was sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography.

Aaron Ray Fetters, 29, of Jackson, Michigan, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Terrence G. Berg. Fetters’ conviction stems from years of sexual exploitation of an underage girl he knew who was in her mid-teens at the time.

Fetters recorded how he repeatedly sexually abused the girl over the course of several years.

Fetters’ crimes came to light in 2022 when Homeland Security Investigations and the Michigan State Police received a tip that Fetters had distributed images of child pornography to other users through a social media application. Law enforcement began investigating Fetters and seized his electronic devices, which led to the discovery of his recorded sexual abuse of the underage victim. On the same devices, investigators found hundreds of images of child pornography that Fetters had downloaded from the Internet and shared with others, including young children who were being sexually abused.

“Thanks to the tireless efforts of our law enforcement partners, including the MSP and HSI agents working on this case, a prolific sex offender was exposed, his abuse was stopped, and he was punished for his heinous actions,” stated U.S. Attorney Ison.

“HSI is committed to protecting our most vulnerable population from sexual predators who seek to exploit their innocence, particularly those in positions of public trust,” said Shawn Gibson, acting special agent in charge of HSI Detroit. “Working with our law enforcement partners, we will do so.” We will continue to aggressively protect children by diligently investigating online sexual crimes involving minors. My thoughts are with the victim in this case and I hope they can continue the healing process knowing that justice has been served.”
