Eight Suspects Arrested for Grand Theft in Welcome to Rockville, Deputies Say – WFTV

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two more suspects were arrested on grand larceny charges Saturday night at the Welcome to Rockville Festival, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers recovered 18 additional stolen phones and several credit cards.

All but five phones from Friday have been returned to their owners, and we have yet to return six phones from last night to their owners, deputies said in a statement.

Officials with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office have identified and arrested six suspects who reportedly stole dozens of phones and wallets from concertgoers at the Welcome to Rockville festival Friday night.

According to VCSO, a backpack containing over 50 cell phones was recovered from the suspects.

Investigators determined that the majority of the suspects were Colombian nationals who entered the United States illegally.

All were arrested on charges of various types of grand larceny and taken to jail without bail.

Homeland Security Investigations was notified of the defendant’s immigration status.

“Witnesses described suspects working in pairs – one reaching between victims’ pockets, bags or purses, stealing the contents and then handing them to another suspect,” VSO said.

In a statement, VCSO said, “We are the lead agency responsible for the safety of our Rockville guests and we take this seriously!” We are back on site today and are working with our partner agencies to ensure this is a is a safe event. Criminal activity like this will not be tolerated.”
