Raleigh is preparing to honor law enforcement as National Police Week begins

Several cities and towns around North Carolina are preparing for the start of National Police Week.

Police Appreciation Week began on Sunday.

Events begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday with a memorial service at Hayes Barton Baptist Church. The ceremony will honor 23 fallen Wake County police officers.

Several City of Raleigh facilities and downtown buildings, including the WRAL News Tower, will light blue in honor of fallen officers.

Several events are planned to help the public celebrate and honor officers, including:

  • Flag banner honoring fallen heroes on Fayetteville Street
  • Shop Local Raleigh provides officers with meals throughout the week
  • 10% of sales will be donated to the Raleigh Police Department Foundation at MARTA’s in North Hills.
