Kolkata: A youth was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a woman he had asked to accompany him to a friend’s birthday party. Instead of going to a party, he and his friend took her somewhere else, plied her with alcohol and allegedly raped her. The two had been dating for three months after meeting online. After the woman lodged a complaint at Kasba police station, the youth, Fazal Hossein, was arrested from his house in Beniapukur. He was in police custody on Sunday until May 17. The police are looking for his friend. Government lawyer Subhashis Bhattacharya opposed Hossein’s bail, telling the court that the woman first met the defendant on social media on January 25. They became friends and began dating and going out together. It was alleged that after a few dates, Hossein asked the woman to meet him as he said he was taking her to a friend’s birthday party at Tagore Park in Kasba. “The woman complained that this was not taken to every birthday party, but somewhere else. Accompanied by his friend, Hossein gave her a hard drink and after she fell unconscious, the two allegedly took turns raping her. We’re looking for the other defendant. “Hossein is in police custody and we are questioning him,” a police officer said.
