A man was left with a cut to his neck in a freak chainsaw accident

A 54-year-old logger has survived a horrific chainsaw accident in Victoria’s far north-east thanks to incredible luck.

Joe Hogg cut wood on Saturday when His chainsaw struck back, slicing his neck.

His buddy ran to the nearest property to get help and luckily Brenda Noonan was home.

“(There was) a gentleman lying on his back with severe blood loss everywhere and a terrible wound in his neck was still oozing quite a bit,” Ms Noonan said.

Fortunately, Ms Noonan had also completed first aid training. She tried to stem the flow of blood with paper and cloth towels.

“I just knelt next to him, holding his neck and praying like crazy, you know, just hoping and wishing and praying that he would live.” said Ms. Noonan.

Then Joe’s luck really kicked in. His neighbors were able to call emergency services for help thanks to a newly installed cell phone tower.

“I thought he was dead,” admitted Corryong police chief Ross Martin.

“(But) the tower was officially opened on Friday, And on Saturday It saved someone’s life.”

They directed the rescue helicopter by telephone.

Joe is now in a stable condition in Canberra Hospital.
