Free agent for Buffalo to sign from Anaheim

NHL free agency is one of the most exciting events of the offseason. Talented players join teams, some of which are completely unexpected. That’s the beauty of free agency. For the Buffalo Sabres, they should go all out this summer. That being said, it’s time for a whole new series.

In this new series, I will pick one player from each NHL team that the Sabers should try to sign. First up is the Anaheim Ducks. The player Buffalo should try to draft from the Ducks is forward Jakob Silfverberg. This season with Anaheim, Jakob played 81 games in which he scored seven goals and recorded 12 assists. He was also a +4 this year.

While his numbers aren’t anything to get excited about, Silfverberg would be a good depth piece for Buffalo. The Sabers are a young team and Silfverberg could bring leadership to the team. Even though he hasn’t scored 20 goals since 2019/2020, he could fit in well on Buffalo’s third or fourth line.

At 33, I don’t think he would cost much. The last time he signed a contract was in 2019, when the Ducks gave Jakob a 5-year, $26,250,000 contract with an AAV of $5,250,000. As far as importance goes, I don’t think he’s a must-play player that Buffalo should target.

There are other players, but in terms of the Anaheim UFA, I would be OK with Silfverberg coming to the Sabres. Again, not someone to go crazy about. That being said, Buffalo needs to revamp their bottom six and Jakob could be an option if they choose to go in that direction.

With the Arizona Coyotes moving to Utah, the next team will be the Boston Bruins.
