BJP leader who exposed Prajwal Revanna is now accused of sexual abuse

The BJP leader who betrayed Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister D Deve Gowda, in the sexual harassment case is also facing harassment charges. The leader’s name is G Devaraje Gowda, he is from Hassan. It was he who had written to the saffron party leadership before it entered into an alliance with Prajwal Revanna’s party JD(S) that Revanna had sexually abused many women.

The FIR against Deveraje Gowda was lodged only on April 1. But only now has it come to light through the Prajwal Revanna case.

Deveraje Gowda was booked on a complaint filed by a 36-year-old from Hassan district who alleged that he harassed her by helping her sell her property.

Who is Deveraje Gowda?

He is a BJP leader but an advocate by profession.
Devaraje contested the 2023 assembly elections against HD Revanna, father of Prajwal Revanna from Holenarasipura and JD(S) MLA, but lost to him.

Last week, without elaborating, Devaraje said: “Very soon there will be a big political change in Hassan. JD(S) chief HD Kumaraswamy will take a big decision and it will be implemented within a week.”

Earlier, he had claimed that he had approached the BJP central leadership regarding the Prajwal Revanna issue, while the BJP in Karnataka rejected the claims, terming them “patently false”.

Devaraje also alleged that the Karnataka government was trying to suppress evidence and manipulate the investigation and described the SIT as “remotely controlled by the state government”.

Now he has been charged under 354 (A), 354C, 448, 504, 506, 34 of the IPC and 66(E) of the Information Technology Act, 2008.

The offenses include assault or criminal violence against a woman with intent to violate her modesty, sexual harassment, voyeurism, trespassing, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and criminal intimidation.
