Two people were arrested on Staten Island following a traffic violation that hindered apprehension

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A late-night traffic stop led to two arrests in New Brighton Saturday evening.

Elijah Hesterbey, 30, was driving with a suspended license when he was stopped in front of 131 Jersey St. after failing to stop at a stop sign, a DCPI spokesman said.

When officers discovered his revoked driver’s license and attempted to arrest Hesterbey, 33-year-old Ayesha Williams, a passenger in the vehicle, attempted to intervene.

Williams was also arrested at the scene. She was charged with one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, one misdemeanor count of obstructing governmental administration and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, a DCPI spokesman said.

According to a DCPI spokesperson, Hesterbey was charged with one misdemeanor count of aggravated driving without a license and one misdemeanor count of failing to stop at a stop sign.

The DCPI spokesperson explained that failure to stop at a stop sign typically results in a citation when operating a vehicle with a valid driver’s license.
