Winnipeg police are investigating a serious incident on Portage Avenue

Portage Avenue was closed in both directions from Home Street to Evanson Street Sunday morning while police investigated a “serious incident.”

Police also closed off Arlington Street north and south during the investigation.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) initially posted about the road closure at 6:50 a.m. on X, formerly known as Twitter

Evidence markers could be seen throughout the sprawling crime scene — on Portage Avenue, adjacent sidewalks and an alley connecting Home Street to Arlington Street.

Police officers were also seen collecting evidence and using a drone camera in the area.

The road was reopened to traffic around 10:40 a.m

A WPS public information officer said details would be released Sunday afternoon.
