1 dead after car crash on US Highway 13

When first responders arrived, they said they found a Nissan Murano in a tree line off the road.

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) — A driver died in a car crash in Cumberland County Sunday morning.

It happened on the 6500 block of US Highway 13.

When first responders arrived, they said they found a Nissan Murano in a tree line off the road.

According to investigators, the Nissan, which was traveling south on U.S. Highway 13, went off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and entered a ditch. The car then crashed into a pine tree, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Firefighters had cut down trees to get the vehicle out of the forest.

While cleanup continues, U.S. Highway 13 is closed at Stewart Road and Eason Road.
