Groton police identify two men charged in the fight at Poquonnock Plains Park

According to Groton police, 43-year-old Randall Clark and 30-year-old Dustin Hibbert were taken into custody following the altercation around 1 p.m

Police said Clark, of Medford, Massachusetts, and Hibbert, of Bridgeport, got into a physical altercation on the sidelines of a youth sports event.

Clark then “returned to his vehicle and retrieved what spectators believed to be two firearms, causing panic in the crowd and sending hundreds of players and spectators fleeing the park in all directions,” police said. Despite initial reports of gunshots, police confirmed that Clark did not fire any shots.

Police added that they were unable to locate the two firearms that were allegedly displayed during the brawl.

Clark was charged with second-degree breach of peace, risk of injury to a minor person, first-degree menacing, first-degree reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm with the intent to display it and carrying a firearm without a permit. Police said Clark’s bond was set at $20,000.

Police said Hibbert was charged with second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor and bond was set at $2,500.

The incident remains under investigation.
