Armed man fatally shot by police in East Flatbush

An armed suspect was fatally shot by police officers in East Flatbush early Sunday morning, according to the NYPD.

According to NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, officers patrolling East 52nd Street and Church Avenue observed two men fighting.

One of the men pointed a gun at the other during the argument. According to police, the armed suspect fled after officers attempted to approach him.

An officer insulted the man and ordered him to drop the weapon. However, according to police, the suspect tried to escape again.

“The officers gave the man further commands to drop the weapon and they fired their weapons,” Maddrey said.

The man was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. Another person went to the hospital with a graze wound to his leg and said he was near the shooting.

A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Police have not yet identified the victim and the investigation is ongoing.
