Driver charged with drunk driving after early morning crash on I-93 in New Hampton

NEW HAMPTON – A Washington woman has been charged with impaired driving after a car crash on Interstate 93 that resulted in a temporary closure of the highway and her being airlifted to a hospital.

State Police Communications was notified of the accident near Exit 23 at approximately 2:15 a.m. today, May 11th.

Shortly after the automatic notification, calls from other drivers about the accident followed.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a Jeep Renegade that had veered off the left side of the highway, collided with an embankment and rolled several times before stopping in the median.

The driver, 28-year-old Amanda B. Webber, was evaluated by the New Hampton Fire Department and then flown to Concord Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The section of I-93 where the crash occurred was closed for about 30 minutes to allow the rescue helicopter to land and take off.

The on-scene investigation revealed signs of impairment, which led to Webber’s arrest for driving under the influence.

Responding to the incident included New Hampshire State Police, New Hampton Fire Department, Dartmouth Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) and New Hampton Towing.

While it is currently believed that impairment and excessive speed were the primary causes of the accident, the investigation is still ongoing.
