EV Velu’s son injured in road accident in Tiruvannamalai

V. Kamban, son of Public Works Minister EV Velu and deputy chairman of DMK’s state medical team, was injured in a road accident when the SUV he was traveling in crashed at Endal Bypass Road junction, about 2 km away. Tiruvannamalai was hit from behind by another car on Sunday.

Police said Mr. Kamban, who was also the managing director of Arunai Group of Institutions, was returning to his house from his college when the driver of another car traveling from Vettavalam to Tiruvannamalai lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident led. Both cars were badly damaged in the impact, including their windshields.

Mr. Kamban was traveling along with his personal assistant B. Anand (32) and driver V. Parasuraman (35) at the time of the accident, which occurred around 2.50 p.m. The passengers in the second car were P. Prakash (35). The vehicle was driven by M. Sundramoorthy, 65, his wife S. Parmelu, 57, and P. Pavitra, 4, Mr. Prakash’s daughter. They were residents of Chennai and were on their way to a funeral in Tiruvannamalai.

Other motorists and passers-by immediately alerted the police and ambulance services in the eastern city of Tiruvannamalai. Injured people in the car were taken to Tiruvannamalai Government Medical College while the minister’s son, his assistant and driver were treated at Arunai Medical College. Doctors at hospitals said all the injured were out of danger. A case has been registered. Further investigations are underway, police said.
