Full statement from police launching a murder investigation after a man was found dead

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at an address in Southampton.

Below is the full statement from Hampshire Constabulary.

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at an address in Queens Terrace today (May 12).

Shortly before 8:45 a.m. the police were called because a man needed medical attention.

Emergency services attended the house but the 42-year-old man from Southampton was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials are now working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

As part of this investigation we have arrested a 54-year-old man from Southampton on suspicion of murder.

He currently remains in custody.

DCI Ross Toms, the investigating officer, said: “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the family of the deceased man. Our team is working hard to understand the exact circumstances of what happened to him.”

“I know it will be worrying for people to see the increased police presence today and in the coming days.

“Based on the information we currently have, we believe the individuals involved are all known to each other and that there is no major threat to the local community.

“Officers will be conducting door-to-door interviews today and will be at the address in question.

“If you have any concerns, questions, or have any information that could assist our investigation, please do not hesitate to speak to one of them.”
