What do the Atlanta Braves trades from last offseason look like now?

This past offseason, the Atlanta Braves were no strangers to trades, as the club made a total of 10 in the span of two months, some of which were more notable than others. So why not look back to last offseason and see what those same deals look like now?

Business #1

Atlanta’s first trade of the 2023-24 offseason took place on November 16, 2023, when the Braves acquired veteran left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer from the Chicago White Sox for five different players. As for Bummer, the left-hander has made 13 relief appearances for Atlanta thus far, where he is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA And 13:3 K:BB on 12 IPs.

As for Chicago’s return, Soroka, who was probably the biggest name, has struggled so far this season as a member of the White Sox in eight starts. During this period, the right-hander is 0-4 with a 6.34 ERA And 20:23 K:BB on 38.1 IPs.

In addition to Soroka, Chicago also received another MLB veteran, Lopez, who has appeared in 30 games for the White Sox so far this season. Lopez also struggled, cutting .212/.291/.222 with two SBs.

As for Chicago’s additional return, the White Sox received a trio of prospects, arguably the biggest of which was left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster. The former first-round pick has split his time between the major leagues and Triple-A so far this season, owning a 3:00 P.M. and one 6:4 K:BB over 12 relief IP in Chicago, as well as an 0-1 record, 6.39 ERA and 9:3 K:BB over 12.2 IP (three starts) in Triple-A.

Shewmake, who was also a former first-round pick, has appeared in 24 games for the White Sox so far in 2024, but has struggled to cut.138/.150/.224 with one HR, three RBI and five SB. To complete the deal, Gowens, who is currently with High-A Winston-Salem in the White Sox organization, is 1-1 with a 4.81 ERA And 27:11 K:BB on 24.1 IP (five starts).

Trade #2

The next day, Atlanta would make two different trades with the Kansas City Royals, the first sending Anderson to the AL Central club for cash. Anderson, a veteran right-handed reliever, has made 15 appearances in the Kansas City bullpen so far this season, owning a 2-1 record, a 3.29 ERAAnd one 8:8 K:BB ratio on 13.2 IP.

Business #3

The second of those two aforementioned deals in Kansas City on November 17 involved the Braves acquiring Kowar, a right-handed pitcher. However, Kowar’s time in the organization would be short, as he never appeared in a game with the Braves. (we’ll talk about this later).

In return, Kansas City received Wright, a former Atlanta first-rounder who pitched six seasons with the club from 2018-23. Wright has not pitched so far this season, as he is currently recovering from a injury.
