Domestic violence suspect killed, 1 person injured by Columbus police

Police say a Columbus man is dead after he was killed during a “gun battle” with police that stemmed from a domestic violence incident on the city’s East Side.

Another person was injured during the shooting and was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in stable condition, police said.

According to police, at 7:08 p.m., Columbus police responded to a report of a shooting in the 4700 block of McAllister Avenue near Shady Lane Road, one block south of East Main Street.

Responding officers were met by a “heavily armed” man from a domestic violence incident and a “shootout” ensued, Brian Toth, executive vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, later told reporters.
