Blue Jays demote Teoscar Hernandez to Triple-A Buffalo

After a two-game split in San Francisco, the Blue Jays made an adjustment to their roster, selecting struggling outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to Triple-A Buffalo.

Richard Urena was reportedly called up ahead of Toronto’s four-game homestand against the Chicago White Sox that begins Thursday.

Before his demotion, Hernandez was struggling a lot at the plate, hitting .189/.262/.299 with three homers in 39 games. His assignment to Buffalo comes after he struck out four in Wednesday’s 4-3 loss to the Giants.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo was quick to point out Hernandez’s loss of confidence after the Giants series.

“Of course his confidence is down,” Montoyo shared with Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith. “Everyone can tell by looking at it.”

Urena’s promotion appears to be a good fit for a Blue Jays team that is struggling on offense. The young shortstop was hitting .313/.333/.406 in 11 games with the Blue Jays before being cut a few weeks ago to make room on the roster for Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
