Suspect arrested for strangling, belt-raping woman in Bronx

A man is facing serious charges after a disturbing attack on a 45-year-old woman in Melrose. According to police, the man is now charged with rape, assault and strangulation, with the possibility of further charges being added.

The incident, which was captured on a surveillance camera, occurred at 5 a.m. May 1 near East 152nd Street and Third Avenue. The video shows the man approaching the victim and subduing him with a belt. The woman falls to the ground unconscious and the man takes her to a secluded area between two vehicles where he sexually assaults her.

Despite the harrowing ordeal, the victim’s condition is said to have stabilized after he was taken privately to Lincoln Hospital. She was able to provide the police with important information about the suspect, including identifying him based on his distinctive teeth and describing previous encounters with him in the neighborhood.

Neighbors in the area expressed shock and concern over the incident, with many calling for increased security measures in the area. One resident, Carla Sánchez, noted: “As a woman you feel bad, it’s a danger, we have to take care of ourselves, they have to have more safety on the streets, that was late at night and it was too much.” .”
